Under Elon Musk’s leadership, X has recently outlined their 2024 strategy, focusing on peer-to-peer transactions and sophisticated AI capabilities. However, in a subtle shift, the company has phased out a feature for premium subscribers, no longer allowing them to use NFTs as profile pictures.
Previously in January 2022, under its former management, Twitter introduced a feature for Twitter Blue subscribers. This allowed them to display Ethereum-based NFTs (ERC-721 or ERC-1155 tokens) as hexagon-shaped profile pictures. Users could click or tap on these pictures to view additional NFT details, including collection specifics, contract address, TokenID, and minting application. X, however, has recently removed all references to this NFT profile picture feature from its premium support page.
The discontinuation of this aspect is not surprising , Meta also removed NFTs features on Facebook and Instagram.
